Probably my most favorite place to paint. Not only because of the never changing beauty of the wooded landscape through each season, but also because of lifetimes of memories the old cabin holds. Back in 1937, Grandpa Buck, along with my Dad and about three uncles, cleared a section of land from a parcel about a quarter mile off the county road back into the woods in Southern Indiana. Cutting the trees down by hand using axes and a two man cross cut saw, then hauling them out of the woods with a mule team to build this two story log cabin. It was a beauty,,, solid, safe and warm. It wasn't until 15 years later they finally got electricity back to it, then another 10 years to acquire indoor plumbing. The old place still stands . . . and is still occupied by Buck family descendants. |
