When the technology came along
and developed a new method of reaping with the "rolling" of hay and straw,
instead of using the old "hay bails", I was a little disappointed, as I
am over changes of most anything. I've always enjoyed painting the stacks
of hay bails and fodder shocks of corn in the fields at harvest time.
But, in a short time I noticed the patterns these rolls make in the scenes
and landscapes all across the country. The shadows they cast, the
patterns and designs they make, was not only interesting, but also
beautiful, and add a lot of substance for a painting subject. I can't
tell you how many time I've been driving along a back road and suddenly
stop, and back up to get another look at the intriguing scene because of
the rolls of hay. |
