This watercolor painting is of the home of American painter Theodore Clement Steele, (1847-1926). The painting title is derived from the title of the book written by the artist=s wife, Selma N. Steele, AThe House of the Singing Winds@, on the life and works of T.C. Steele. Steel is a noted the turn of the century impressionist painter and founder of the artist colony known internationally as AThe Hoosier Group@. The home is now an Indiana State Museum and Historical site. A wonderfully interesting home and studio located in the remote hills of southern Indiana in Brown County. Living nearby I’ve painted the house from a series of photographs I’ve taken over a span of years. |
